Acer Aspire as6930 – 6941 notebook

Acer Travelmate 5730-6953 Notebook Review

Acer Travelmate 5730-6953 notebook is as the names suggest a travel mate for your long journeys. It weights 6.6 pounds and it is a mainstream system. Unlike other mainstream notebooks on the market it comes at a relatively reasonable price, $795. It has a great 15.4” widescreen with a native resolution of 1280x800 and a powerful Intel Core Duo processor. Other specs include 2GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive. It has what it takes to be powerful, speedy and reliable. It will not let you down and you will be able to spend your time doing anything you want on this portable system.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
It could be as well your notebook at home, as it has the features to replace your desktop or a great turn-over when the power goes down. Desktop replacements tend to be more expensive, even though they have what it takes to replace the good old desktop. It is also a great buy for students. They often scout for a portable system, not too heavy not too big, so they can carry around campus or have enough room to put on their desk. The long battery life is great for writing down the whole course or stay at night playing some network games with the next door neighbor. It is also small enough to fit in the backpack and to slip other things as well. Portability is a must have for anyone, especially for travelers or students who want to stay connected every time. 2GB of RAM is sufficient to run applications and to assure multi-tasking. The more you have, the better the system will work and the faster. Configuration and customization is possible with any system, and that is a relief, knowing you can each time add something new and improve the notebook.

The Intel Core Dup processor found in the Acer Travelmate 5730-6953 notebook is great for several reasons. The processing power is high and it is great for playing some intensive games as well. You get double power in a single processor. Intel is a bit more expensive than AMD, but with them you manage more than basic tasks. Another good thing about this notebook is the existing HDMI port; you can connect to a TV or monitor to view slideshows or your holiday videos at a higher screen. Other ports included are Serial ATA and USB ports. There is also a fingerprint reader, which you ca use to secure all your data. You also should know that this product is Energy Star, as it has incorporated power management features.

Some of the disadvantages might include the 6.6 pounds issue and the 160GB hard drive, which might be a bit small, spaced for some. It has a DVD writer and we can say that is an advantage, being able to write your pictures and videos on DVDs is a good thing. And we have to take into account the screen size, 15.4” is relatively big and for this price, it’s really a bargain. It has some drawbacks here and there, but also features to cover them up.

Connectivity is done easy with Wi-Fi, so it is a real travel mate. For this amount of money, Acer Travelmate 5730-6953 notebook is worth it.

Acer notebook review

One of the best producers of laptops in the world is <strong>Acer</strong>, which is a large multinational corporation that operates all over the world and which produces many other devices such as: computers, notebooks, PDA-s, servers, displays, peripherals, storage devices and also software products. For today we’ll make an <strong>Acer notebook review </strong>and we’ll choose to discuss about the brand new model – the<strong> Acer</strong> Ferrari One.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
As you can tell from its name and from its cool design, it is made in collaboration with the Ferrari company, one of the best brands of supercars in the world. A Ferrari is not just about speed, it is an expression of beauty, power, excitement and pleasure – and this is what the engineers at Acer had in mind when they created this laptop. Actually it is more a netbook, and this is because it has a 11.6 " TFT  WXGA display screen, with 24 bit (16.7 million colors) – CineCrystal technology and a resolution of up to 1366 x 768. The Acer Ferrari One was probably made as a response to the netbook from Alienware – the Alienware M 11 X, and even though it is not as powerful as that one, it can still be a good laptop for gaming. Its processor is the AMD Athlon 64 X 2 L 310 / 1.2 GHz ( Dual Core ) which is quite really good for a netbook. It comes with a memory of 4 GB DDR 2 SDRAM – 667 Mhz and with a large hard drive of 250 GB. It is quite small and really portable, with overall dimensions of 11.2 in x 8 in x 1.2 in and a weight of just 3.3 lbs.

It even has a 5 in 1 media card reader, with support for: SD Memory Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, MultiMediaCard, xD-Picture Card. Its graphics engine is good too, and it has an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200 video card. The sound will be good too, thanks to the DirectSound, High Definition Audio and Dolby Home Theater features. It also has a built in webcam with microphone and both wireless and Ethernet connectivity for easy access to the internet. The Lithium Ion battery has a good battery life of up to 5 hours and it comes with an installed version of the Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Edition. It is also Energy Star Qualified so it uses less energy and meets strict energy efficiency guidelines.

It has most of the ports you might need, such as: 1 video PCI Express port, 1 VGA port, 1 Ethernet port, 3 high speed USB ports, 1 audio port and 1 microphone port. It has 1 year of warranty and comes at quite a big price for a netbook of 640 dollars. The producer also offers a lot of installed programs so that you can use it right after you buy it. Among them there is the Microsoft Internet Explorer, Adobe Acrobat Reader, WinDVD, Acer Launch Manager, Google Toolbar, Adobe Flash Player, Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, Google Setup, Acer GridVista, Windows Live Essentials, Acer Assist, Norton Online Backup, McAfee Internet Security Suite (Trial), Microsoft Office Personal 2007, <strong>Acer</strong> Crystal Eye, <strong>Acer</strong> Video Conference Manager, Microsoft Works 9.0 and the Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student Edition (60 days trial). Enjoy it!

Refurbished Acer laptop

Geeks.com is a site, and also an online store specialized in selling computers, laptops, and many other types of related electronic products. It offers hundreds of cool and quite cheap products, including many models of new and <strong>refurbished Acer laptops. </strong>and one of them is the <strong>Acer Aspire</strong> One AO 532 H – 2789, and about this one we’ll discuss more today. This is a netbook, so it is quite a small laptop.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
Like most of the netbooks it is not very powerful, but it has a small price, small dimensions and a good battery life. Its overall dimensions are: 1.2 - 7.75 x 10.25 x 7.25 inches (H x W x D, approximate) and a weight smaller than 4 lbs. So you can easily take it with you wherever you go, and use it whenever you need it. As we said it is not very powerful, so you can’t use it for complex activities, but for browsing the internet it can be just great. After all this is the main purpose of a netbook.

Its processor is the Intel Atom N 450 with a speed of 1.66 GHz and with 512 KB cache. The RAM memory is quite ok, and it has  1 GB DDR 2 667 MHz SDRAM. It has a silver patterned exterior, and a black interior and keyboard, so it looks quite simple and elegant. Its hard drive is ok too, and thanks to the capacity of 160 GB you can store a lot of files of any category. It has a 6 cell Lithium Ion battery and comes with an installed version of the Microsoft Windows 7 Starter 32 bit pre-installed w/CoA and reinstallation partition. Like any other netbook it doesn’t have an optical drive, so in case you really need one you will have to use an external one. the graphics card is the basic Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 while the sound is a Realtek High Definition Audio with 2 built in speakers.

Since its main purpose is connecting to the internet, it has both wireless and Ethernet connectivity - Atheros 10 / 100 Fast Ethernet and Atheros 802.11 b / g / n Wireless LAN. It also has a 5 in 1 media card reader with support for Secure Digital (SD), Memory Stick (MS), Memory Stick Pro (MS PRO), MultiMedia Card (MMC) and  eXtreme Digital Picture Card (xD). Even though it is a really cheap laptop of just 230 dollars, its features doesn’t end here and it also has a built in webcam with microphone for video chatting online with friends and family. Its keyboard is a QWERTY one with all the keys except the numeric ones, while the display screen is a 10.1 inch TFT Crystal Brite LED Backlit LCD (with a resolution of 1024 x 600). It features most of the ports you might need including 3 high speed USB ports, one VGA port, one security lock slot, one RJ 45 Ethernet port, one microphone port, one headphones port and finally a DC input. Enjoy it!

The laptops are becoming more and more popular, and probably in the future there will be more laptops than personal desktop computers. They have a lot of advantages, and the biggest one is of course the portability. As we mentioned before, Acer is also producing laptops, and this is what we are going to discuss about today.

Notebook Computer Ratings

If you have been following the past two articles, then you probably know about what notebook is this article. Toshiba Portege R500 follows the steps of its siblings, Portege M750 and Portege A600. Toshiba A600 is considered to be the entry level notebook for the Portege family. It features a solid built, nice design, and good features for a 12 inches entry level notebook. Portege M750 is the pearl of the Portege family providing so many excellent features. In hardware language, the M750 comes in six basic configurations, which vary mostly within the hard drive used, the dual core processor included, and the display's usability.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
Also, the common features of all these six M750 models are powerful enough to surpass a 16 inches notebook. Another excellent features that M750 sports is the convertible feature. You can transform your 12 inches notebook in a 12 inches PC Tablet. What about the R500? Although the whole Portege family is about ultra portability, the most portable, until now, model in the Portege line is the R500 model. Also it is the safest in terms of protecting the data stored on the hard drive. It is the most ultra portable Portege because it was built with one and only purpose: to get through a full day work without recharging the battery. I am going to present this feature later when I am going to write about the battery. Long story short, until then, Portege R500 sports a solid state drive (which saves power). At first glance you might not notice, but Toshiba Portege R500 is all about business. In design department everything looks run in the family.

notebook-computer-ratings
Therefore, you will be happy to know that R500 has a silver aluminum lid. Is not a aluminum MacBook unibody but is a high quality material. It rejects fingerprints, and resists to minor scratches. The only plastic feel material you are going to find is on the left and right side of the R500 body. You get no flex from display, no squeaks, no nothing; everything is perfectly build. The overall built not only looks solid, but feels solid.

Once you open the R500 you are going to find the same excellent quality. The only two non silver finishes in the Portege R500 are the glossy black frame surrounding the 12 inches display and the metallic Toshiba logo on the lid. The keyboard is similar to the ones found on the M750 and A600, sporting 85 keys, and a sound volume control dial. The keys have good sizes. The only key that are somewhat small are the Fn keys. The space between them is sufficient, and you can easily write more than a couple of hours without feeling any discomfort.

notebook-computer-ratings2
The keys provide good feedback, and do not offer any flex when pressed. Under the good quality keyboard you get the touch pad (classic no multi touch features), which provides an excellent time response. Under the good sized touch pad you get two buttons, and in the center of these two buttons R500 sports the biometric fingerprint reader. Toshiba suggests you replace the old password with your fingerprint for securing your notebook. I honestly suggest you to use both. For a better security just use both password and fingerprint to lock and unlock your R500. The two control buttons that centered the fingerprint reader are: Toshiba Assist button and Toshiba Outdoor Display Switch. All the ports and slots are integrated either on the left side or on the right side of the R500.

Both front and back side lack of any ports. On the right side you can find the DVD Super Multi + / - R drive supporting nine formats, such as CD ROM, CD R, CD RW, DVD RAM, DVD ROM, DVD R, DVD RW and others. On this side you also get the Ethernet port, memory card slot, and 64 pin docking connector. On the left side Toshiba added the charger pin, three 2.0 USB, RGB monitor out port, microphone input port, headphone output port and others. The Portege R500 has a height of 0.77 inches to 1 inch, wide of 11.1 inches, deep of 8.5 inches; the R500 weights about 2.4 lbs. The connectivity is ensured by the Intel PRO / 1000 - 10 / 100 / 1000 Ethernet, Intel Wireless Wi-Fi Link 4965 AGN with 802.11 a/g/n profile, Secure card slot with SDIO compatibility, and the version 2.0 Bluetooth with enhanced data rate.

notebook-computer-ratings3
Toshiba
equipped the R500 with a 12.1 inches diagonal widescreen high brightness display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels (WXGA). This display is trans reflecting and features a LED backlight. This screen offers great visibility in direct sunlight. The R500 display delivers great vibrant colors indoors and outdoors. Toshiba included in all the R500 models a Mobile Intel 945 GMS Express Chipset and the Intel Core 2 Duo processor U7700 with 1.33 GHz, 2 MB L2, 533 MHz FSB with 64 bit. Also available on all R500 models is the 2048 MB PC2 5300 DDR 2 SDRAM. All these features are quite great, and the whole package is completed with the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 with 256 MB graphic memory. All these specs will be sufficient for you to watch movies without any gaps.

notebook-computer-ratings4
Even if Toshiba says that the R500 can run games, the reality is different. Don't expect to be able to play any real games, maybe old 2D games and low quality old 3D games. Toshiba offers two models for the R500 Portege. At a closer look you will see that the only real difference between the Portege R500 S5006V and the Portege R500 S5007V is the hard drive. On the S5006V you get a 160 GB serial ATA hard drive with 5400 rotation per second, while the S5007V brings a 128 GB Solid State Drive (SSD). This means only one thing.

Toshiba Portege R500 competes directly against Apple MacBook Air. A solid state drive is a smaller, faster and tougher version of the old hard drive. Because is free of moving parts, and is four times tougher than the normal hard drive, the solid drive consumes almost 50% less power than the classic drive. Another great feature of this new technology hard drive is the safety it provides to your data saved on your notebook. If R500 senses a fall or a kick, the solid drive freezes all activity and saves your business and personal data. This technology is great, especially because solid state drives can now provide up to 512 GB. A big drawback of this technology is the price tag. For example, the difference between S5006V and S5007V is about $1000 (remind yourself that the only difference between these two models is the hard drive offered). Toshiba ships the Portege R500 with Windows Vista Business 32 bit version.

The R500 also packs other software like Toshiba Cong Free, Toshiba Assist, Toshiba Disc Creator, Sun Java 2 Runtime Environment, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Google Desktop, Google Picasa, Microsoft Office Ready, Microsoft Office Professional 2007, and others. Toshiba ships the R500 with a 5800 mAh Lithium Ion battery with six cells that should provide 7 hours and 30 minutes battery life. It is not exactly a full day work battery life, but it does the job better than any other competitors. Overall, Toshiba Portege R500 is a great notebook, providing good features like the shock absorbing design, hard disk drive protection, good tech list and a good battery life. The R500 model starts from $1.399 and goes up to $2.299 price tag for the solid state drive configuration.

Benq Laptops

BenQ made available 3 new notebooks in Asia-Pacific, China and East Europe, featuring the recently announced SRS advanced surround sound audio solutions and HD audio sound cards.
If yesterday we were presenting you a new HP laptop series with the SRS Premium Sound, now we will talk about the SRS TruSurround XT, TruSurround HD and SRS Headphone 360, which are the new sound enhancements brought by BenQ’s Joybook S33, Joybook S42 and Joybook P53 notebook models.

In short words, the new SRS technologies deliver deeper and richer bass, crystal clear communication and high-definition of high frequencies, with compatibility with any kind of speaker system, whether it is built inside the computer, designed for desktop, or integrated in headphones.

According to the latest researches, the majority of the adults using a laptop computer need HD audio sound cards for content streaming, gaming and movies, so SRS had to develop the best solution without scarifying the lightweight and small form factor design of the portable computer.

BenQ Joybook S33 and Joybook S42 models feature the SRS TruSurround XT technology, which provides a premium virtual surround sound experience from any type of multichannel source, via 2 speakers or headphones. Doesn’t matter if sources are mono, stereo or surround encoded content, because the SRS technology transforms it into an outstanding virtual surround sound.

BenQ Joybook P53 laptop comes with the SRS TruSurround HD and SRS Headphone 360. The first technology supports input sources up to 6.1 channels and renders surround sound from 2.0 – 3.1 speakers.
It practically creates virtual “phantom” speakers for a greater multichannel surround sound effect. For example, if the source has mono sound, SRS TruSurround HD will give you the sensation of a three dimensional sound field, compensating for those systems that don’t offer tweeters for high frequency performance.

On the other hand, the SRS Headphone 360 enables outstanding surround sound effects on portable devices, enabling up to 7.1-channel sound over headphones including dialog clarity and enhanced bass.

The 13.3-inch ultra-portable BenQ Joybook S33’s design resembles the classic Victorian style by sporting curlicues over the white or black lid’s surface. Its 1280 x 800 display features 250 nits for high brightness and the Display Brilliance Enhancement Film for high-quality imaging. Inside it has the Intel Centrino 2 Processor Technology, Windows Viata operating system, Intel GMA X4500HD graphics, up to 4GB system memory, up to 320GB hard drive storage, DVD burner, 4 USB ports, SPDIF connection, ExpressCard slot, a built-in 2MP web camera, microphone, the Intel WiFi Link 5100 module, Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR, a 4-in-1 card reader, High-Definition audio, Noise Suppression & Echo Cancellation, 4 hours of battery life, and the QDataTrove 3 backup and system restore utility. The system has a total weight of just 1.8Kg without the battery.

If you want to opt for a portable computer with High Definition support and separate graphics card, you can check BenQ Joybook S42 with an NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT card, support for full HD movies, LED Backlight display, BenQ’s backup and recovery system, Bluetooth 2.0, wireless draft N support, a built-in 2MP QEye webcam, and HDMI output connector. In addition, the laptop features a durable construction with shock-proof and scratch-resistance capabilities, as well as over 8 million keystrokes for the keyboard.
The 14.1-inch laptop comes with Windows Vista pre-installed, up to 4GB memory, up to 320GB hard drive, DVD burner, ExpressCard slot, a 4-in-1 card reader, HD Audio, and many other elements, all in a 2Kg unit, excluding the battery providing 5.5 hours of continuous operation.

BenQ Joybook P53 is the largest newly introduced laptop from the company, sporting a 15.4-inch display and weighting 2.4Kg not including the battery.
Characteristics of this model include an AMD Turion 64 X2 processor, Windows Vista operating system, ATI Radeon HD3450 256MB graphics, up to 4GB system memory, 320GB maximum HDD capacity, DVD burner, 4 USB ports, HDMI output, built-in 2MP web camera, and all the other components of the previously described models, including HD audio sound cards.

"Through their hands-on involvement throughout our development process, SRS demonstrated a unique, in-depth understanding of how to tune and optimize their advanced sound solutions to deliver excellent audio performance for our exciting new line of Joybook," said Peter Chen, GM of BenQ Technology Product Center. "Our customers expect us to combine exquisite design with advanced technology to deliver great performance, practicality and ultimate portability. Given that, we are convinced that, thanks to SRS' state-of-the-art audio solutions, there will be no compromises in terms of audio output, guaranteeing our customers a seamless and superior multimedia experience."
